04/28/2024 – A day to celebrate: birthdays and art lessons for the children

It’s unbelievable how quickly a month can go by! I’m already back in Addis Abeba waiting for my connecting flight.

At the Massai market, I met an arist called Goodluck who agreed to teach our children regularly. The artist will now come to our orphanage once a month and teach the children who are interested in art. Thanks to Thomas and Erika, we now also have plenty of watercolours, so the children were able to enjoy the first two hours of lessons to the full.

We haven’t celebrated a birthday since January 2024. We have now decided to bring a cake for the birthday children on the last Sunday of every month. Today we celebrated the birthdays of eleven children!

Unfortunately, we don’t have a birth certificate for four of the children. We estimated their ages and decided on a birthday for them ourselves so that they too could be celebrated.

The children sang me a lovely song to say goodbye, which brought tears to my eyes.

My next trip is coming up in July. then I will spend two weeks with the children.
